Epcot Guide

Image
Walt’s original idea for Epcot was for it to be an Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow, a city of the future, but he didn’t live long enough to make it come to life. Instead Epcot the park was designed as a permanent World’s Fair, an exposition of technology and world cultures. The two aspects can be seen in the two areas of the park, Future World and World Showcase. Fountain of Nations in front of Spaceship Earth Future World Future World is where you’ll find most of the attractions in Epcot, but also where you’ll find the most empty spaces. My top three here are Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Soarin’. I’ll do a more in depth look at all of the rides in my next post. Future World also has Innoventions which used to be a cool pavilion with interactive exhibits to showcase technology and stuff, but now it’s mostly empty with only a couple interactive presentations. Future World is currently down one attraction with the closing of the Universe of Energy Pavilion to make way f

Magic Kingdom Ride Guide

Image
Magic Kingdom has more attractions than any other Park at Walt Disney World. In this ride guide, I’ll go over each attraction in Magic Kingdom with a brief description to give you an idea if it’s worth your time. Many attractions are dark rides, which are slow moving rides that you sit in some sort of two- to four-person vehicle and it brings you through scenes. Though they use the same sort of ride system, each dark ride is very different. Most dark rides also use Audio-Animatronics, which are essentially robotic characters. But don’t worry, there are many different types of rides and plenty of thrills in Magic Kingdom. Main Street, U.S.A. Walt Disney World Railroad The Walt Disney World Railroad travels around the park with stops at Main Street, Frontierland, and Fantasyland. It can serve as a quick way to get from one area of the park to another without having to walk through crowds of people. You also get to see scenes and views that you can’t see from anywhere else in th

Magic Kingdom Overview

Image
Magic Kingdom is the heart of Walt Disney World. It was the first park to open in Florida and has the most attractions. Magic Kingdom follows a similar plan to the first Disney Park, Disneyland. Six themed lands surround the central hub telling the stories of “yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” For this post I’ll give a more general overview, my next post will be a more in depth look into each attraction. Town Square on Main Street The first land to greet you as you walk in the gate is Main Street, USA and evokes the feeling of turn of the century America with its shops and horse drawn carriages. Though there aren’t really any attractions on Main Street, there are lots of shops most with more than just souvenirs. My favorite is the Crystal Arts shop where they have live glassblowing throughout the day. Bridge to Adventureland Going clockwise around the hub from Main Street is my favorite land, Adventureland. Tropical south seas jungles, a middle eastern bazaar, a

Crash Course in WDW Transportation

Image
Walt Disney World has a pretty impressive transportation system that can get you around their property and even get you to and from the airport. And it’s all included with your stay at a Disney Resort. Since it’s where you’ll start on you vacation, let’s look first at getting to your resort from the airport. Disney’s Magical Express This is an awesome service for those flying into Orlando International Airport with participating airlines. There are two parts to the Magical Express, you and your checked bags. With your travel documents, you’ll be sent special yellow luggage tags (like the ones they put on at the airport) for your bags that have your resort name and area on them. These go on your checked bags and after you check into your airline, you won’t see your bags again until they reach your room. Disney picks them up from the airport and them directly to your room for you. So that’s how your bags get there, but how do you get there? You (and your unchecked bags) take a Mag

Beginner’s Guide: How long to stay

How long to stay is entirely up to what interests you in the parks and how long your budget allows you to stay. For a perfect vacation in my books, I recommend staying for 6 days. Why? Because that gives you a full day at each park plus an extra day at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but that’s just the opinion I have from how my family has done Disney. Here’s a breakdown to give you an idea of how long you’ll want to stay based on how long the parks might take: Magic Kingdom With all its rides and shows, Magic Kingdom is near impossible to do in a single day if you want to see everything. It is possible to hit the best attractions and shows and still get the full experience in a single day. I would not recommend any less than a day or you’ll feel rushed and won’t get to see enough. Epcot One day for Future World and one day for World Showcase works well (they were actually two separate parks back in the beginning of the planning phase). If you’re not into the big thrill rides or

Resort Review: Deluxe Resorts

Image
Resorts in this category have it all (including a big price tag). Deluxe resorts have more room options ranging from four-person rooms to eight-person suites. The standard rooms have two queen beds or one king and a day bed, which is a sofa that converts into a bed. These rooms also have a bathroom with two sinks, a shower, and toilet. This style room is also available with club-level service for an additional price which gets you your own personal vacation planner to make dining reservations and VIP tours. Suites range from a one-bedroom suite that sleep up to 5 with a king bed, queen-sized sleeper sofa, and twin-sized sleeper chair to a two-bedroom suite that sleeps up to 8 and has a kitchenette and living room area. Deluxe resorts also have more dining options with multiple table service, quick service options, and lounges. Some dining areas are more upscale than others and have a dress code, these tend to be the more expensive, hard to get into table service places. Like dining
